Children’s Ministry at St. George’s

  • At St. George’s, our mission of feeding body & soul shapes how we welcome and form children. We believe children are not the future of the Church, they are full members of the Body of Christ now. Created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and welcomed by Jesus (Mark 10:14), children belong fully in the life, worship, and ministry of the Church.

    Scripture reveals worship as deeply intergenerational:

    “One generation shall praise your works to another.” (Psalm 145:4)
    “Assemble the people—men, women, and children…” (Deuteronomy 31:12)

    The psalmist offers a powerful image of communal life and blessing:

    “Your children will be like olive shoots around your table.” (Psalm 128:3)

    This image is not of children set apart, but gathered at the center—around the table, participating in shared life, nourishment, and blessing. So too in the Church, children are integral to our common worship, especially as we gather at the table of Christ.

    Worship is not a performance to observe, but a shared act of participation. Children, through their wonder, movement, and presence, reveal the nature of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 18:3). Their voices are not interruptions, they are praise (Matthew 21:16).

    In welcoming children fully, we live out our calling to nourish the whole person in feeding body & soul through belonging, participation, and formation.

    Gathered like olive shoots around the table, we embody a Church where all ages are nourished and blessed.

    “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” (Matthew 18:5)

    And in that welcome, we live more fully into our mission of feeding body & soul for all ages.


  • 1. Belonging & Hospitality
    Children are welcomed as they are, and guided with gentleness to cultivate a playful and grounded reverence for sacred space.

    2. Participation & Invitation
    Children are included in the full worshiping life of the community, so that they can be gathered, like olive sprouts, around the table of Christ.

    3. Formation & Immersion
    Faith is formed through participation in liturgy, prayer, scripture, and sacrament and not only through classroom instruction (Proverbs 22:6).

    4. Honoring the Spirituality of Children
    Children encounter God through wonder, play, movement, and story as these are pathways into worship, not distractions.

    5. Intergenerational Community
    The Church is most fully itself when all ages gather together in worship, learning from one another.

    6. Intentionality & Flexibility
    We are intentional about children’s formation while remaining flexible in how it unfolds. Alongside full inclusion in worship, we embrace occasional, dedicated gatherings just for children that create space for age-specific formation, relationship-building, and deeper engagement.

    7. Sustainable Growth
    We are committed to growing all ministries at St. George’s at a sustainable pace that matches the gifts, limitations, and energies of our community. We seek to pace ourselves based on the speed of trust, relationship, and wholeness. We value that less is often more with our programming.

  • We do not have a separate classroom for your child. All children are welcome to stay in the sanctuary for the entire worship service.

    Each child will receive a kids' worship bulletin, colored pencils or crayons, and access to a curated selection of sacred items to use during the service. Your child is welcome to bring their own books, comfort items, and coloring!
